2.1 Essential Question:
Put in writing the question that will engage the students
1.
What kind of food do you consume daily
? “ Am I getting proper food daily “ Please Think !
2.
How can we improve the life style to
keep a healthy habit ?
3.
What exercise should be taken up by a
person to burn down the excess calories ?
Related
to MATHS :
TASK
1 :- Eating a burger gives 360 calories and drinking a 200 ml bottle of cola
gives 80 calories. Anil consumed 6400 calories on eating burgers and drinking
cola in a week . The number of cola bottles he consumed is half the number of
burgers he ate in a week. Represent the above statements in the form of
linear equations and solve them graphically to find the number of burgers and
cool drink bottles he consumed in a week.
TASK 2 :-
Anil’s friend suggested that he should jog and swim regularly to burn the excess calories . Anil started swimming for 180 minutes and jogging for
120 min in a week and lost 2400 calories. In the next week he lost 3200 calories
by swimming for 2 hours and jogging for 4 hours. Represent the above
statements in the form of linear equations and solve them algebraically to
find the calories burnt in swimming in an hour and jogging in an hour.

Launching the Project in the morning assembly/CLASS X-A
Speech by Deepika of Class X –A
dated 08-08-2016
When you allow students to envision their own learning and create a
style that really works for them , what you are doing is creating lifelong
learners.
Good morning,
Today I am
standing before you to introduce all of you to project based learning . Project
Based Learning is a method to inspire
students to think , connect , create and share. It makes an attempt to connect
knowledge and skills with personnel experiences of the students in such a way
that it results in life skill learning.
Project Based Learning bridges the gap between learning knowledge and applying skills. In simple
words it bridges the gap between knowing and doing. PBL makes students critical
thinkers , problem solvers and effective communicators .
Why Project based Learning ?
Students learn
more deeply when they get to apply class room gathered knowledge on real world
problems and when they take part in project that include collaboration and
sustained engagement . Also students are most successful when they are taught
what to learn as well as how to learn.
How does this work ?
PBL poses a
problem or ask a question to which all students can answer . Concrete , hands
on experiences come together during PBL. It fosters abstract and intellectual
task to help students to explore complex issues and topics. Ie, PBL allows students to investigate problems
and issues that the real world is facing.
An analysis
conducted in USA found that when implemented well , PBL can increase long term
retention of contents and skill as well as improve teachers and students
attitudes towards learning.
Let us hope that
PBL will bring about a change is us “
Tell me and I will forget , show me
and I may remember , involve me and I will Learn “ .
That
is exactly PBL is all about.
(Speech by Deepika of Class X –A dated 08-08-2016 )

LIFESTYLE MANAGEMENT
A healthy lifestyle is one which helps to
keep and improve peoples health and wellbeing. A healthy diet alone however is inadequate
to ensure a healthy body as physical activity and stress management helps to
keep one in shape and free of sickness and disease.
A good life style helps to benefit your
critical NUMBERS like Weight, Blood
sugar, Blood pressure, and Blood cholesterol. The ways of being healthy include
healthy eating physical activities, weight management and stress management. Many
government and non government organisations have made big efforts in healthy life style and health.
Life style is expressed in both work and
leisure behaviour patterns and in activities, attitudes, interests, opinions,
values and allocation of income. The emphasis on a good life style should start
at a young age. Parents should urge their children to eat a good diet,
exercises regularly, keep good relationship, personal hygiene etc. Stress
management is an important part of your life style.
HEALTHY LIFE
Health is the level of functional and
metabolic efficiency of a living organism. It is the ability of individuals or
communities to adapt and self manage
when facing physical, mental, or social challenges. The WHO defined health in
its 1948 constitution as ‘a state of complete physical mental and social well
being and not merely the absence of disease infirmity
The maintenance and promotion of health is
achieved through different combination of physical and mental and social well
being together as “health triangle”. Emotional stress plays an important role
in many illness, both directly and
indirectly.

micro nutrients. Each of them has a different role to play in maintaining
various body functions. A balanced diet is important because your organs and
tissues need proper nutrients to work effectively. Without good nutrition your
body is more prone to disease, infection, fatigue and poor performance.
A balanced diet is very important to the immune
system ensuring that nutrients necessary to its efficient function are
available. A diet with wide variety of wholesome foods often makes maintaining
a healthy body weight a bit easier. There may be a
relationship between lifestyle including food consumption and potentially
lowering the risk of cancer and other chronic diseases
BALANCED DIET
A
balanced diet is one that provides the body with all the essential nutrients, vitamins and minerals required to maintain cells, tissues
and organs as well as to function correctly .
Children with poor diet run the
risk of growth and develop mental problems and poor academic performance. Bad
eating habits can persist for the rest of their lives.
Cause and effect of unhealthy eating habits:-
More or less human being is a machine ; like
any machine body also needs fuel to work. but, only sufficient fuel is not all
.,the quality of fuel is also important for a good performance. For human body

Today we have child lover with us. By saying
this you might have guessed it is a teacher but it is wrong. We have a paediatrician with us. His name is Dr S. Jithendra Babu.
He takes care of children.
I am
Rishika.
How are you sir? Are you all good with your Patients?
Sorry sir, I think it’s a bit sensitive. Sorry for asking.
Paediatrician- No, It’s alright. They are all good in their beds.
I am
allowed only 10 minutes sir. So, I can start.
Paediatrician - Yes off course.
ME - You know this is the 21st
century and there is a rising population and majority of them prefer to take
science stream in higher studies. So,
actually what is the future for paediatrics?
Paediatrician – In general, I think that paediatrics
has a strong future. As long as people
keep having babies, there will be a need for paediatrician to take care of
them.
ME – That is a different opinion Sir. Can I
continue?
Paediatrician – Yeah
ME – This is the 21st century and
there are many social evils. One of them is the usage of junk food mainly by
the young generation. What is your opinion about that?
Paediatrician – I know that it is an uprising
social evil. Its usage must be reduced otherwise it will lead to child obesity
and lack of physical fitness.
ME – So, are you saying that we have to
switch on to a healthy diet? Or otherwise, how to ease into a healthy diet?
Paediatrician – If you want to control the
use of junk food, we have to obey some health rules.
Ø Everyday
start with breakfast
Ø Hard-boil
some eggs, this is good even when you are in a hurry so, you can grab an egg
before you go to work or school. By this you won’t be tempted to eat food in
nitrogen Packets.
ME – That is a strong one. What are the other
rules?
Paediatrician – Do you out for lunch
everyday?
ME – Yeah once a week.
Paediatrician – Cut back on calorie
restaurant food. When you are at school Pack your lunch a couple of days each
week. When the snack time comes around, choose a Package of mixed nuts instead
of a candy bar. Drink lots of fresh water instead of sugary soda or hydrogenated
drinks.
ME – A lots of new things sir. Thanks for
that.
ME – My mother has a doubt. When she went for
shopping, she often see the words “enriched” or “fortified” on food Packaging,
what do they mean and are they the same ?
Paediatrician – As a doctor I think that
foods that are enriched or fortified have one or more nutrition’s added to them
such as Calcium, Vitamin C, Protein, Iron and Fiber. They are not
interchangeable.
ME – I will surely inform my mother. Thank
you.
ME – How to eat healthy and avoid fat diets?
Paediatrician – Fat diets are bad but they
can lead to successful weight loss if you follow them exactly as they are
designed.
ME – Can you suggest any drink which is
healthy for us?
Paediatrician – Yes sure. Stick to water as
your main beverage and avoid sugary sodas, and if you get tired of plain water,
add a slice of lime to add a touch of flavor.
ME – What about green tea sir?
Paediatrician – Green tea also add great
benefits to our health.
ME – I have heard in T.V Programmes that
there are good fats too. What are they or why do we need them? Where to find
them?
Paediatrician – Yeah I will tell you. You
need to eat fats. Good fats are necessary for a healthy body but you also need
to avoid some fats. There are some bad fats that raise Cholesterol and other
cardiac diseases which are very dangerous.
ME – So can you share some of the good fats
with us?
Paediatrician – Yes off course. Some of them
are found in nuts and vegetable oils. Seafood’s are also rich in facts. Olive
Oil and nuts are rich in fats which are good for our heart, for the circulation
of blood vessels.
ME – It is the young generation and you know
well that children at this age are not going to eat their traditional foods all
the time. Generally, they all are dependent on breakfast cereal. So my question
is, How to choose a breakfast cereal? Do you have any suggestions sir?
Paediatrician – Even my family is depended on
that. Always choose a breakfast cereal that has 5 grams of sugar. Also use
berries, sliced fruit or raisins to add sweetness to your cereal. Avoid cereals
with lots of sugar. Look for a cereal which is rich in Vitamins and Minerals.
Avoid dairy products which are rich in fats. You can add hard-boiled egg or
fresh fruit juice to make it a healthier breakfast.
ME – From all these, I understood that we
should have a balanced diet. I will definitely share my experience with you and
aware others about the usage of junk food. Thank you for sharing your precious
time with me sir.
Paediatrician – You are welcome. All I wanted
to say is that you are the young generation and don’t always depend on junk
foods. Don’t be a bad path to the coming generation. So, let food be the
medicine and medicine be the food. Live young Live Healthy. Thank You.

Mathematical Task - 1
Q:
eating a burger gives 360 Calories and drinking at 200 ml bottle of cola
gives 80 calories. Anil consumed 6400 calories on eating burgers and drinking
Cola in the first week of vacation the number of cola bottle consume is the
half number of burgers he consumed in the first week .represent the above
statement in the form of linear equation and solve them graphically to find the
number of burgers and cold drink bottle he consume in the first week.
ANS:
calorie gained by eating a burger is 360
calorie gained by drinking of 200 ml Cola is
equal to 80 calories
let number of burger he had be x
and
the number of bottles of Cola he drunk be y
anils total calorie consumption=6400
-x+y=6400
=> {1}
No
of cola is half no of burgers
Y=1/2x=>{2}

Since
the two lines intersect at the point(16,8),the solution is x=16,y=8.
Therefore
the number of burgers he consumed is 16,and the number of cola bottles he
consumes is 8
TASK -II
In addition to having cold drinks and burger
Anil is also very fond of eating chocolate French fries watching TV for long
hours and gained weight suggest five tips for Anil so that he can improve his
Lifestyle .write five healthy habits you follow to improve your health.
Ans:
1] take proper balanced diet ,avoid eating
fast food
2]
minimise t v watching ,keep physically active in order to burn extra calories
3]regular
exercise
4]practise
yoga ,have a positive social communication.
5]
keep personal hygiene, have a proper sleeping pattern
Health tips to follow
1]drink
lot of water
2]eat
fruits and veggies
3]avoid
tea, coffee etc
4]practise
yoga
5]avoid
junk food
Task 3
Anil’s friend suggested that he should jog
and swim regularly to burn excess Calories .Anil started swimming for 180 minutes and Jogging
for 120 minutes a week and lost 2400 calories. in the next week he lost 3200
calories by swimming for 2 hours and jogging for 4 hours .represent above
statement in form of linear equation and solve algebraically to find calories burnt in swimming in an hour
and jogging in an hour.
Let
calories burnt by swimming an hour be x and jogging be y
1st
week
Swimming
=180 min =>3 hours
Jogging
= 120 min =>2 hrs
3x+
2y=2400 =>{1}
2nd week
Swimming= 2hrs
Jogging= 4hrs
2x + 4y=3200 =>{2}
By elimination
3x+2y=2400
2x+4y=3200{/2}
X+2y=1600{3}
ð 3x+2y=2400
[-] x+2y=1600
___________________
2x=800
x=400
Substitute
in [3]
400+2y=1600
2y=1200
y=600
Therefore swimming burns 400 calories and
jogging burns 600 calories in an hour.
